Trualta’s Accessible Caregiver Portal

Introduction

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report that 61 million people in the United States live with some form of disability¹. In 2017, the CDC’s Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) survey found that 33% of caregivers reported having a disability². Caregivers with disabilities often face barriers to accessing the services they need, and online resources are no exception.

A recent study found that 71% of people with disabilities will abandon a website that is difficult to use or inaccessible³.

At Trualta, we understand how important accessibility is for creating equitable opportunities for family caregivers to access the services they need. This is why we have worked hard to make our website and portal compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (2.0). We are proud to share that on our newly accessible portal, you will find the following accessibility features and enhancements:

Navigation Improvements:
A blue background featuring four white icons representing a home, an open book, a calendar, and a tab button, designed for the Accessible Caregiver Portal.
  • Comprehensive website-wide navigation using keyboard shortcuts
  • Optimized heading structures to facilitate navigation between sections
Screen-Reader Compatibility:

  • Website-wide screen-reader compatibility without loss of information
  • Access to forms, checkboxes, and quizzes via keyboards and screen-readers
  • Alt-text functions to promote comprehension of image context and content for those using screen-readers
Accessible Design Considerations:

  • Correct color contrast ratios (4.5:1) to promote text readability
  • Closed-captioning options on every video on the website
